Democrats Curb Their Enthusiasm

If the bad economy and upside down approval ratings weren’t enough, Barack Obama can add one more data point to the ever growing list reasons he won’t win a second term: democrats aren’t enthusiastic about voting. Democrat voters currently have a net enthusiasm of +1, with 45% saying they are more enthusiastic about voting in 2012 and 44% saying they are less enthusiastic than in past elections.

Republicans on the other hand, have a net enthusiasm of +28 with 58% saying they are more enthusiastic about voting in 2012 and 30% saying they are less enthusiastic than in past elections.

The bottom line is that 2012 will not be 2008 and Obama will not be able capitalize on democrat enthusiasm to put traditionally GOP states like Indiana and North Carolina in play. While it is still early, this data adds to the increasingly bleak picture of Obama’s chance at a second term.
