The Real Motivation Behind Card Check

Within the first 100 days of the Obama administration, the Obama camp and Democrat leaders have  signaled that one of their first initiatives will be something called Card Check.  Card Checking allows union leaders to see how each worker voted in referendums on whether or not to unionize a shop.  In short it eliminates the secret ballot in union votes.

One can imagine the abuse that can follow from such a situation.  Giving union bosses the chance to know how indivduals voted is ripe for intimidation and corruption.

Card Checking is the most undemocratic of practices.  So why are the Democrats and Obama pushing it?

In part it is payback for the millions and millions of dollars unions have poured into Democrats’ election coffers the past two cycles.  But there is another reason.  Abolishing the secret ballot is the only chance labor has to finally unionize Wal-Mart, a company unions covet for its large workforce but also a company that for years has consistently voted not to unionize.
